Privacy Policy

Last updated October 2, 2026

BudgetIQ ("we", "us") provides personal budgeting tools. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and the choices and rights you have.

Information we collect

  • Account data: name, email address, password (stored hashed), currency and timezone preferences.
  • Financial data you enter or import: income, expenses, bills, budgets, goals, debts, cards, assets and uploaded documents or bank statements.
  • Assistant conversations: messages you send to the AI Advisor.
  • Technical data: basic logs needed to run and secure the service. We do not use advertising cookies or sell tracking data.

How we use it

  • To provide the service: calculations, charts, alerts, reminders and reports.
  • To send account emails (confirmation, password reset) and the alert emails you turn on.
  • To send product update emails only if you opt in. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • To keep the service secure and fix problems.

AI processing

When you use Ask BudgetIQ, the Advisor, or statement import, the relevant data is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic Claude, via our AI gateway) only to produce your answer. It is not used to advertise to you. BudgetIQ is not a licensed financial advisor; AI answers are informational only.

Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We use service providers for hosting, database, email delivery and AI processing, bound to use the data only on our behalf.

Text messages (SMS)

BudgetIQ does not currently send SMS messages. If we add SMS, we will only text you after you give separate, express consent, and you will be able to reply STOP to opt out.

Retention and security

Data is kept while your account is active. Data is encrypted in transit and protected by per-user access controls. When you delete your account, your data is permanently deleted.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the EU/UK under GDPR and California under CCPA/CPRA), you may access, correct, export, or delete your data, object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent. You can export or delete everything yourself in Settings → Data, or email us. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Children

BudgetIQ is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
